Nutrition Ph.D. alumna Sharmin Hossain moderated a panel on public health careers as part of the 13th Annual NIH Career Symposium, which was held in virtual format this year. The panel, which included professionals from higher education, government and industry, also included current nutrition doctoral student Ruthfirst Ayande.

UMass flute professor Cobus du Toit has released a comprehensive series of recordings of all the flute chamber works by 20th century French composer Jacques Castérède on Naxos Records. “Jacques Castérède: Complete Works for Flute” was released in three parts, with separate CD’s released in October 2019 as well as January and June of 2020. The recordings took place in late 2017 at the Robert and Judi Newman Center’s Hamilton Hall on the University of Denver campus, a space known for its impeccable acoustics, as well as at Firehouse 12 studios in New Haven, Connecticut.

AMHERST, Mass. – The Massachusetts eHealth Institute at MassTech (MeHI) has selected six new healthcare research and development (R&D) hubs to join the Digital Health Sandbox Network including the University of Massachusetts Amherst’s Institute for Applied Life Sciences (IALS), the state program announced this week.

In close cooperation with Kelly Curran, of Holyoke Public Schools, and Joan Giovannini, at Holyoke Community College, Beverley Bell and Betsy McEneaney, of the College of Education, have been awarded a state Teacher Diversification Pilot Program grant and UMass Public Service Endowment Grant (PSEG) for partnering to develop a Grow Your Own (GYO) Program. 

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced this week that it has named 76 scientists from across the country, including assistant professor of physics Chen Wang, to receive “significant funding for research” with its Early Career Award. It provides university-based researchers with at least $150,000 per year in research support for five years.

UMass Dartmouth Associate Professor Jeremiah Ho has been awarded the 2020 Manning Prize for Excellence in Teaching for his outstanding dedication to students and the university. The faculty members — one from each UMass campus — will receive $10,000 awards in recognition of their sustained excellence in teaching and exemplary contributions to the campus community. Ho, who teaches at UMass Law, joined the University in 2012.
