UMass Boston Interim Chancellor Katherine Newman announced today that the university will continue to rely on its remote teaching and learning platform for the fall semester. Public service commitment

Over the past five years, UMass Law has graduated the highest percentage of public service lawyers among all law schools in New England. Between 2014-2019, 27% of UMass Law graduates secured positions in government or with public interest organizations.

“It is inspiring to witness the deep and genuine commitment UMass Law students feel toward working in public service, expanding access to justice, and improving the lives of the people within their communities,” Dean Eric Mitnick said.

UMass Law outperformed several area private schools in 2019 employment rates.

85% of UMass Law's 2019 graduates are employed or are pursuing graduate degrees, while over 80% secured employment in bar-required or JD-advantage positions.

61% of the class secured full-time, long-term employment in positions that required them to pass the bar exam. This surpasses three private law schools in Massachusetts with employment rates ranging from 51% to 58%.

Today’s Supreme Court ruling that protects the nation’s 800,000 Dreamers from immediate deportation is an important and welcome step. I want to especially thank UMass Immigration Counsel Sandra Torres for her work on this issue in collaboration with the office of Attorney General Maura Healey.

I want to congratulate my colleague, UMass Dartmouth Chancellor Robert Johnson, on his appointment as President of Western New England University. Western New England has chosen a leader with an entrepreneurial spirit, commitment to student success, and belief in the power of a university to strengthen regional economies.
