BOSTON – The University of Massachusetts has saved $26.9 million in operational costs as a result of its innovative efficiency and effectiveness program since January 2020, for a total of more than $125 million since the E&E program was launched in FY11, according to the university’s FY20 Efficiency and Effectiveness Report.
NOAA recently announced its 2021-22 Sea Scallop Research Set-Aside Projects Selected. Recipients of the grants collaborate with the fishing industry to conduct research. According to the NOAA Fisheries website, the projects focus on research priorities identified by the New England Fishery Management Council, which established the Sea Scallop RSA Program in 1999.
The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) recently announced the Spring 2021 grant award recipients. The grant awards are given to student researchers to fund their proposals for research projects alongside a faculty supervisor. The Office of Undergraduate Research works with students begin and fund research projects that aim to solve problem, make new discoveries, interact with research faculty outside of the classroom, and demonstrate a student’s intellectual dedication and academic skills.
UMass Dartmouth CVPA Professor Rebecca Hutchinson (Art & Design) is being featured in the groundbreaking exhibition Particle & Wave: PaperClay Illuminated. This is the largest and first international traveling paperclay exhibition in the world, with a selection of artists from five different continents.
Paperclay is created by mixing paper pulp and other organic fibers into clay. This makes the clay both stronger and lighter, allowing artists to sculpt in ways that would not be possible using traditional methods.

The Sustainable Solutions Lab at UMass Boston has awarded two research grants to project teams that will focus on groups that are often overlooked when evaluating the impacts of climate change.
These projects are led by interdisciplinary teams of faculty members affiliated with the lab’s partner colleges, schools, and institutes. As climate impacts become more and more severe, the Sustainable Solutions Lab is working to expand research literature that speaks to the needs of those most vulnerable to climate change.
