UMass Boston junior Sarah True has received the prestigious Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship. This is the third year in a row that UMass Boston students have been named Goldwater Scholars; four students have received the honor.

The Goldwater Scholarship is given annually to college sophomores and juniors who demonstrate excellence in natural science, engineering, and mathematics. This year it was awarded to 410 students across the country out of 1,256 nominations.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) recently announced that thirteen UMass Amherst students and alumni have received awards from the Graduate Research Fellowship Program. The program provides three years of support during a five-year fellowship period.

Graduate programs in business, education and engineering at the University of Massachusetts Amherst rank among the best in the nation as reported in the U.S. News & World Report 2022 edition of Best Graduate Schools, which was recently released.

The Isenberg School of Management’s full-time MBA program was named number 57. The part-time MBA program was ranked at 26, up two spots from the previous year.

The College of Education is ranked 76th.

Graduate programs in several science and social science disciplines at the University of Massachusetts Amherst rank among the best in the nation in fresh rankings featured in the 2022 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s Best Graduate Schools, which was recently released.

Jonique Childs, assistant professor in the College of Education student development program, was awarded a 2020-21 Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) scholarship from the National Board for Certification Counselors (NBCC) Foundation, an affiliate of the National Board for Certification Counselors.

Aisha Murdaugh, consumer manager for disability services has been selected as the winner of the Susan M. Daniels Award for Disability Mentorship by the National Disability Mentoring Coalition and Partners for Youth with Disabilities.

AMHERST, Mass. – A team of polymer science and engineering researchers at the University of Massachusetts Amherst has demonstrated for the first time that the positions of tiny, flat, solid objects integrated in nanometrically thin membranes – resembling those of biological cells – can be controlled by mechanically varying the elastic forces in the membrane itself. This research milestone is a significant step toward the goal of creating ultrathin flexible materials that self-organize and respond immediately to mechanical force.
