AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Amherst has received a $10 million, five-year award from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to create the New England Center of Excellence in Vector-Borne Diseases (NEWVEC).
UMass Boston’s Department of Urban Planning and Community Development and Pre-Collegiate Program, in collaboration with the Boston Planning and Development Agency, Boston Public Schools, and Madison Park Technical Vocational High School, are launching a new summer immersion program to introduce Boston youths of color to the many desirable public service careers available within the fields of urban planning, design, and development.
UMass Boston’s Mauricio Gastón Institute for Latino Community Development and Public Policy is one of 140 local nonprofits to receive grants through Cummings Foundation’s $25 Million Grant Program. The Gastón Institute was chosen from a total of 580 applicants during a competitive review process. It will receive $100,000 over two years.


University of Massachusetts President Marty Meehan and the chancellors of the university’s Amherst, Boston, Dartmouth, Lowell and Medical School campuses have signed on to the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge Presidents’ Commitment.
