Two students, juniors Meg Davis and Rhada Dave, have developed a device to measure water usage in dorm showers. They used an $1,800 grant from the Sustainability, Innovation and Engagement Fund (SIEF) to create a prototype for their project.

AMHERST, Mass. – Two tree species native to the Northeast have been found to be structurally sound for use in cross-laminated timber (CLT) – a revolutionary new type of building material with sought-after sustainability characteristics, according to research by a University of Massachusetts Amherst timber engineer.

With the regular decision application deadline just days away, UMass Boston's Office of Undergraduate Admissions has received more than 14,000 applications, putting UMass Boston on track for one of its largest applicant pools in university history.

"The Class of 2024 is large, it is diverse, and it is accomplished," Director of Undergraduate Admissions Corey Ford said at Saturday's Welcome Day for Admitted Students event.

The American Educational Research Association (AERA) today named Mark R. Warren, a professor of public policy and public affairs in the McCormack Graduate School, one of its 2020 AERA fellows. Only 12 scholars were selected for their notable and continuous research achievements.

When Polish sociologist Anna Rosinska was studying abroad in Naples, Italy, for college, she discovered a large community of Polish immigrants working there as nannies, housekeepers, cleaners and elder care providers.

She was looking for a master’s thesis topic, so she researched the domestic careworkers and wrote about them when she returned to the University of Warsaw. Then she began researching domestic careworkers in Poland. 

Two research teams from UMass Medical School have been selected by STAT News to compete among 64 contestants in the 2020 STAT Madness competition. STAT Madness is a bracket-style competition in which members of the public vote for the best biomedical research from 2019. The first round of voting begins on Monday, March 2.

AMHERST, Mass. – This year’s UMass Amherst Community Campaign (UMACC) raised $482,488, exceeding its $450,000 goal. Since the campaign began in 1990, faculty, staff and retirees have now donated over $10 million to nonprofit organizations locally and around the world. This year’s campaign also broke the record for the most money raised in a single campaign ($476,666), set in 2008-09.

The UMass Medical School and UMass Memorial Health Care community celebrated the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at the 32nd annual tribute on Tuesday, Feb. 25. Valerie Wedge, MSW, program director for the UMMS Employee Assistance Program, was recognized as the recipient of the 2020 Chancellor’s Award for Advancing Institutional Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion.
