BOSTON - New technologies aimed at improving prostate cancer diagnosis, enhancing employment services for job seekers with disabilities, and optimizing clinical use treatments for melanoma patients could get closer to market thanks to $250,000 in seed funding announced today by the University of Massachusetts.

University of Massachusetts early college initiatives are projected to increase enrollment to 913 this fall, a 50 percent increase in just the second year of the pilot program. These students will earn UMass course credits while still in high school, giving them a head start on their college education, acquainting them with college-level work and saving them money when they do go to college.

BOSTON – The University of Massachusetts research enterprise grew to $813 million in fiscal year 2022, an eight percent increase over the previous year, according to the five-campus system’s latest annual research report.
The University of Massachusetts awarded $395 million in university-generated financial aid this academic year – $22 million more than last year and $185 million more than a decade ago, with 81 percent of this aid going to Massachusetts residents who comprise 73 percent of the UMass 74,000-student community.
“Keeping a UMass education world-class and affordable is our highest priority,” UMass President Marty Meehan said. “As a driver of economic mobility for our students and the Commonwealth’s greatest single source of talent, this is our primary mission.”
UMass President Marty Meehan announced today that he has appointed outgoing UMass Amherst Chancellor Kumble Subbaswamy to the position of Interim Senior Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs and Equity, serving the five-campus, 74,000-student system.
