AMHERST, Mass. – For the first time, UMass Amherst has earned recognition in Princeton Review’s annual selection of Best Graduate Entrepreneurship Programs. In the publication’s 2021 list, the university ranks 40th among 50 colleges and universities.

AMHERST, Mass. – In a new study of tidal marsh resilience to sea level rise, geologist and first author Brian Yellen at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and colleagues observed that Hudson River Estuary marshes are growing upward at a rate two to three times faster than sea level rise, “suggesting that they should be resilient to accelerated sea level rise in the future,” he says.

AMHERST, Mass. – Plans were recently announced for a film adaptation of “On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous,” the best-selling debut novel by Ocean Vuong, associate professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Dr. Steven Cadrin, Chair and Professor of Fisheries Oceanography at UMass Dartmouth’s School for Marine Science & Technology (SMAST), is the recent recipient of the 2020 International Council Exploration of the Sea (ICES) Service Award. ICES General Secretary Anne Christine Brusendorff announced the award on December 14, 2020 in recognition of Cadrin’s term as Chair for 2020.

The Cooperative Institute for the North Atlantic Region (CINAR) recently announced five new Quantitative Fisheries and Ecosystems Science Fellows, including Associate Professor Gavin Fay (Fisheries Oceanography). CINAR, which is led by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and the Northeast Fisheries Science Center, is a consortium of research institutions focused on the marine ecosystem in the North Atlantic. CINAR also works closely with the federal National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
