UMass Dartmouth stands with UMass Amherst against racism

Dear UMass Dartmouth Community,

We were all dismayed to learn that African American and Black students at UMass Amherst were subjected to vile, racist email messages last week. While these hateful acts did not target our campus, we are one UMass, and when individuals attempt to spread hate and division, we must come together.

UMass Dartmouth unequivocally condemns all forms of racism and identity-based harassment, and stands in solidarity with the Black community here on our campus, at UMass Amherst and at all our sister UMass campuses.

These disturbing, racist attacks were a powerful reminder that we must constantly assert our values while we work together to dismantle systemic racism. At UMass Dartmouth, we strive to create a welcoming environment that encourages respect and understanding of a multitude of cultures, perspectives, and experiences. We have many wonderful resources to help us in that important work, and I’ve asked Chief Diversity Officer David Gomes to reach out and outline these and some of our ongoing efforts.

As we live, learn and work together this fall, let’s celebrate our diversity, support one another and continue our work to combat racism with renewed energy and purpose.

Best,

Chancellor Fuller
