UMass celebrating its nearly 20,000-member Class of 2022

BOSTON – Nearly 20,000 undergraduate and graduate students are receiving degrees from the University of Massachusetts over the next month during celebrations that began last week at UMass Dartmouth, followed by UMass Amherst and UMass Lowell this weekend, and UMass Boston and UMass Chan Medical School in the coming weeks.

More than 82 percent of the roughly 55,000 UMass undergraduate students are Massachusetts residents. Of the half million-plus UMass undergraduate and graduate alumni worldwide, 330,000 live in Massachusetts, building their lives and careers, fueling the workforce, and transforming communities through service.

In a video message to the UMass Class of 2022 released today on social media, UMass President Marty Meehan congratulated the graduates on their proven flexibility, adaptability, resilience and resourcefulness over these past years, all hallmarks of UMass alumni and the university’s distinctive role “as one of the Commonwealth’s greatest assets.”

As a UMass graduate himself, President Meehan (UMass Lowell ‘78) encouraged the UMass Class of 2022 to become active members of UMass Nation. UMass “has shaped our state’s past and through your contributions of talent, ingenuity and energy will define its future,” Meehan said. “Our world is full of challenges, but your world is full of possibilities.”
