Three kinesiology students received awards and scholarships during the annual New England Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine (NEACSM) Fall Conference held in Providence, Rhode Island this past November.
Doctoral student Robert Marcotte won the NEACSM Lawrence E. Armstrong Minority Scholarship, which is awarded to support and encourage professional development and academic excellence in minority students in the New England region.
Second year master’s student Colleen Chase received the Mark Connolly Memorial Master’s Scholarship. The award is given to a student researching areas of clinical or basic exercise science or sports medicine. Selection is based on academic excellence, work experience, professional activities including professional memberships and a poster or free communication presentation at the NEACSM annual meeting.
Undergraduate Nicholas Remillard received the NEACSM Student Investigator Undergraduate Award. The award is given for student presentations at the meeting and comes with a $500 prize.
“We are so proud of our undergraduate and graduate students,” says Jane Kent, professor and chair of the department. “These awards reflect the excellence and intent with which they pursue their studies here at UMass, and the long tradition of our faculty providing top-tier research experiences for our students.”
