UMASS PRESIDENT MARTY MEEHAN
From its earliest days, the University of Massachusetts has been driven by the belief that knowledge should be shared with its students and with the world. One of UMass Amherst first professors is credited with the epic achievement of transforming farming into a modern science. More than a century and a half later, we still believe that innovation is a key to a better tomorrow.

Today, our research is a working to protect our coastline and computer networks. They are exploring the universe, expanding the boundaries of science to prevent and cure diseases, creating energy out of thin air. And UMass scientists are fully engaged in the quest to tame the most daunting health crisis of our time as a public research university. UMass has a special responsibility to make the world better. That is our mission and tradition. UMass is here to answer the call.
