A year ago, the Covid 19 pandemic forced the University of Massachusetts to shift much of its academic programing online, a decision that once might have seemed unimaginable became the clear choice given the need to protect the safety of students, faculty and staff. Now, one year later, we've been through a struggle, but today we can see progress and feel hope rising.

I want to thank the UMass community for standing together during this difficult time because of you. Our 75,000 students, including 18,000 members of the class of 2021, will make their mark on a world that needs their talent and passion, and thousands of students will enter the university this fall. As president, I'm grateful and honored to be part of the University of Massachusetts community.

Thank you.
