'He makes me a better person, and I'm so thankful to have a partner like him'

Lauren Casaceli and Frankie Abad, UMass Amherst '15

“We were both students in the Isenberg School of Management, it was our senior year and we both worked at Isenberg's Chase Career Center. We had mutual friends, but we really hadn’t talked much before.

A month into the fall semester, Frankie reached out to all the Chase Career Center student employees to see if someone could cover his afternoon shift. I was around that day and responded, letting him know that I would happily cover his shift. He thanked me and jokingly said ‘I love you.’ Little did he know that it was a sign of things to come!

On the day I was set to cover his shift, he got my number and texted me to make sure that I remembered. He texted me that day, and we've been talking every day since and had our first date a month later. It's now been two and a half years, and Frankie has been there for me every day. He is one of the most positive people I have ever met, and he always looks on the bright side of all things. I certainly feel that he makes me a better person, and I'm so thankful to have a partner like him.

Frankie and I are still very active still with the Isenberg School of Management, and we attend alumni events as much as possible. Even better, we have a group of friends from the Isenberg School that we still hang out with, as our lives have transitioned to the Boston area.

UMass Amherst gave us a lot of things, but the best thing happened senior year when I covered Frankie's shift and ended up meeting my very best friend and boyfriend. The best part is we still have the email exchange to this day that we often tease each other about.”
