‘Amherst will always be one of our favorite places’

Kendra Rosenberg, UMass Amherst '11 and Garrison Macomber, UMass Amherst ‘09

"I met my best friend and future husband in the elevator of the Washington Tower. I was moving in early to my sophomore year dorm after transferring to UMass from URI in the fall of 2008. My best friend, who was already a student at UMass, promised to help me move in with the help of her boyfriend, Mike.

Mike somehow convinced his best friend, Garrison, to get out of bed and help move in his girlfriend’s "cute" friend. Garrison and I shared countless elevator rides to the 15th floor packed like sardines with my belongings. We hit it off right away and have been inseparable ever since.

We both share a sense of humor and enjoy the simple pleasures in life. We are happiest in the outdoors, and during our free time can be found hiking many of the local mountains or cycling on the scenic roads. After graduating, instead of moving to the Boston area like many of our friends, we stayed in Western Massachusetts — a place we both grew to love.

In 2013, Garrison proposed to me while cycling through the farmland between the Connecticut River and the Seven Sisters Mountain Range. In 2015, we were married at Look Park in Northampton, Mass.

Amherst is a place near and dear to our hearts filled with fond memories and will always be one of our favorite places.

Side note: Garrison and I relocated to Charlotte, N.C., a year ago. We met and became friends with Suzanne and Tim in our apartment complex because Garrison was wearing a UMass sweatshirt that caught their eye!"
