Beacons Wrap up Title with Win Over St. Anselm College

The UMass Boston’s men’s hockey team won their first regular season conference title since 1982 on Saturday, securing home ice advantage throughout the New England Hockey Conference Tournament.

The Beacons secured the title with a 4-0 win over St. Anselm College, which pushed their NEHC record to 14-2-2 and their overall record to to 18-4-3.

UMass Boston will host No. 8 University of Southern Maine on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Clark Athletic Center. The Beacons beat the Huskies the two times they faced each other this season.

“It’s certainly a goal that we set at the beginning of the year and we achieved it,” Head Coach Peter Belisle said of the conference title win.

Before Saturday’s game, UMass Boston honored its nine seniors.

“I think that really helped us. We were a little tight [the day before] and I thought we were a little looser out of the gate today and I think that really helped,” Belisle said after the game.

This year’s seniors are 76-20-10 in 106 career games.
