Teacher Training at Waquoit Bay ReserveOceans and CoastsSummer 2008Dates: June 23 - 27 Location: Waquoit Bay Reserve Credit: 3 Graduate credits (optional) or 67.5 PDPs for 36 hours of class time including follow up session Course fee: $50 Credit through Framingham State College: $195This course will introduce methods to teach about marine and coastal science in the classroom. It will include topics and lesson ideas most appropriate for teachers of grades 6-10. Topics will include ocean and coastal geology, estuaries, basic salt water chemistry, currents and circulation, climate connections, marine life, and how technology is used to study oceans and coasts. The course will include presentations from research scientists on current investigations in marine and coastal science, and lessons and guidance in how to find and use coastal data. Participants will receive lesson plans, posters, and CDs, and will have opportunities to practice classroom activities.
