NIH Grant Awarded to Rachel Skvisky, Department of BiologyRachel Skvisky of the Department of Biology has been awarded a $1,394,530, four-year grant from the National Institutes of Health for "Initiative for Maximizing Student Diversity at UMass Boston." Through this project, UMass Boston aims to enhance the academic and research experience of under-represented students at the undergraduate level in order to increase the number pursuing doctoral study in biomedical fields. The program focuses on undergraduate majors in Biology, Chemistry, and Biochemistry, as well as Psychology majors pursuing the BS degree. A key component of this proposal is the University's U56 partnership with the Dana Farber/Harvard Cancer Center, the main goal of which is to address health disparities in minority populations and to improve research, training, and outreach opportunities for minority students, nurses, and scientists.
