The process to date:
- September 26 - Acting on President Wilson's recommendation, the University of Massachusetts Board of Trustees selects Michael F. Collins, MD as permanent Chancellor of the University's Medical School.
- August 14, 2008 - Search Committee recommends to President Wilson that Michael F. Collins, MD, become the permanent Chancellor of the University's Medical School campus.
- August 4, 2008 - Search Committee holds its fourth meeting.
- July 7, 2008 - Search Committee finalizes UMass Medical School Chancellor scope.
- June 30, 2008 - Input session for UMMS staff members.
- June 16, 2008 - Public input sessions are held at UMMS; search committee meets for the third time.
- June 5, 2008 - Chairman Johnston announces June 16 input meetings; committee approves position announcement.
- May 30, 2008 - Search Committee gathers in Worcester to hold its second meeting. Committee selects search consultant, and cites "steady progress".
- April 14, 2008 - Search Committee gathers in Worcester to hold its first meeting. University of Massachusetts President Jack M. Wilson gives the Committee its official charge, asking members to "produce a slate of well-qualified finalist candidates, any one of whom could lead the Medical School with distinction."
- February 26, 2008 - President Jack M. Wilson announces the formation of a search committee that will guide the search for a permanent Chancellor for the University of Massachusetts Medical School.
