RFP# CP13-DF-0302 Donahue Institute High Performance Computing

A Massachusetts research university consortium, led by MIT, is requesting proposals for a high-performance computing (HPC) cluster facility for joint research among universities participating in the Massachusetts Green High Performance Computing Center (MGHPCC). The cluster facility will be used for both production computational science and for more experimental HPC oriented computer science. This system will serve as both a computational resource in its own right and as the development platform for innovations in the area of more responsive and interactive time-shared/time-sliced HPC and around the impact of cloud technologies on HPC and converged cloud, HPC and big-data initiatives.

This RFP requests initial bids of up to $1.5M that should include 3 year warranty coverage on all major items. Responses should also include costs for an optional further two years of warranty coverage. The proposed system should be deliverable in the May-August, 2013 timeframe. A further "3 additional systems option", at $1.5M for each system, and to be purchased over the next 3 years may also be included in a bid response. While the consortium does have funds allocated for this option, the option is not required in a response, and the consortium does not commit to exercising the option if a proposer does include such an option. However, if a "3 additional systems option" is included, it will be considered as part of the selection process.

The response deadline is April 30, 2013, 2:00pm EST
