Dear Friends:

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am pleased to welcome you to the University of Massachusetts Presidential Search web site.

University of Massachusetts Board of Trustees Chairman Robert J. ManningThe site is intended to keep the public up to date with search process, as the University of Massachusetts seeks a successor to President Jack M. Wilson, who will step down in 2011 after providing eight years of outstanding leadership and service.

A diverse and distinguished Search Committee has been established to develop a pool of presidential candidates and from that pool will recommend finalists to the University of Massachusetts Board of Trustees, which will select a new leader for the five-campus UMass system.

The Search Committee will be chaired by James J. Karam, who also serves as vice chairman of the UMass Board of Trustees. Trustee Henry M. Thomas III will serve as Vice Chair of the Search Committee. The Committee consists of faculty members from all five campuses, trustees, alumni, academic leaders, community leaders and a student.

The University will conduct an open, comprehensive national search, and I am confident that this process will conclude with the selection of an outstanding new President who will then lead the University of Massachusetts into a new era of progress and growth.
