Board of Trustees Statement
President Jack M. Wilson, University of Massachusetts
Over the past three years, Governor Romney has made outstanding appointments to the University of Massachusetts Board of Trustees, naming Board members who are already making very significant contributions to our five-campus System. We look forward to working with the new Trustees whom Governor Romney is appointing, as we pursue the common goal of building a University System of unsurpassed excellence, a University that meets all of the needs of the Commonwealth and its citizens.
This is a moment of transition for the University of Massachusetts Board of Trustees, with many longtime members leaving the Board after having provided years of devoted service. The Trustees who are departing contributed their wisdom, countless hours of work and their wealth, and deserve full measures of credit for the many successes the University has achieved and enjoyed in recent years.
I would particularly note the service of Chairman James J. Karam, who led the University of Massachusetts Board of Trustees with passion and distinction. James Karam is a UMass alumnus who makes us very proud. We also offer our sincere thanks to Dennis Austin, Ned Dubilo, Bill Kennedy, Stacey Rainey and Bob Mahoney, who served so diligently and so well. Some are alums and some are not, but every one of them was passionately dedicated to the University. The University of Massachusetts is better for their service.
