Statement From UMass President on Governor's UMass Board of Trustee AppointmentsBOSTON - Tuesday, September 18, 2007 - The following is a statement from University of Massachusetts President Jack M. Wilson regarding Governor Patrick's appointments to the UMass Board of Trustees. "The University of Massachusetts has benefited greatly from the distinguished service of the trustees whose appointments have expired: Robert B. McCarthy, Robert K. Sheridan and Karl E. White. Bob McCarthy, Bob Sheridan and Karl White were dedicated, devoted trustees who contributed years of service to the University and displayed an unwavering commitment to the University and its 58,000 students. During their years on the Board, Trustees McCarthy, Sheridan and White had a strong focus, and that was building a top-quality institution that would fully serve the needs of its students as well as the needs of the Commonwealth." "While we mark the departure of these dedicated volunteers, we welcome the new Trustees who have been appointed by the Governor: Ed Collins, Phillip W. Johnston, James Karam, Dr. Kerri Osterhaus, and Henry M. Thomas III and look forward to the wisdom and enthusiasm they will provide during their years of service. We also thank the Governor for the strong support he has demonstrated, in so many ways, for the University of Massachusetts. We believe that the Governor's support will be a key factor as we work to become one of the very best public universities in the nation." Contact: Robert P. Connolly
