Statement from UMass President and Chairman on Governor's UMass Board of Trustees appointments
BOSTON - Thursday, September 8, 2011 - The following is a statement from University of Massachusetts President Robert L. Caret and Chairman James J. Karam regarding Governor Patrick's appointments to the UMass Board of Trustees.
"The University of Massachusetts has benefited greatly from the distinguished service of the trustees whose appointments have expired on the Board of Trustees. Lawrence F. Boyle, Jennifer C. Braceras, Richard J. Lawton, Kenneth A. MacAfee and Stephen P. Tocco were dedicated, devoted trustees who contributed much of their time and energy to the University over many years, and displayed an unwavering commitment to the University and its students. During their years on the Board, Trustees Boyle, Braceras, Lawton, MacAfee and Tocco helped to build an institution in high demand, internationally recognized, and one that is on the move in many ways."
"The University is pleased to announce that James Karam has been reappointed to another term and will continue to lead us as the Board's Chair."
"We also welcome the new Trustees who have been appointed by the Governor: Richard Campbell, Lawrence Carpman, Zoila Marisol Gomez, Alyce Lee, Jeffrey Mullan, and Margaret Xifaras and look forward to working with them on behalf of the University of Massachusetts and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. We thank the Governor for the strong support he has demonstrated, in so many ways, for the University of Massachusetts. We believe that the Governor's support will continue to be a key factor as we work to become one of the very best public universities in the world."
