President Wilson statement on the passing of former UMass President David C. KnappI am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of David C. Knapp, who was one of the great Presidents in the history of the University of Massachusetts and a father of the five-campus UMass system. It was David Knapp's vision to create an outstanding University of Massachusetts system that would serve students from across the Commonwealth and strive to bring economic prosperity and vitality to every region of the state. President Knapp was an avid supporter of the special relationship between the University of Massachusetts and Japan, particularly working with the Massachusetts-Hokkaido Society, and I was honored to join David and his wife Rita at events that marked the University's historic ties to Japan. David Knapp was an educator, a visionary and a leader. President Knapp left an indelible mark on the University of Massachusetts, and we mourn his passing. President Jack M.
