UMass television ad wins Emmy Award
The University of Massachusetts's most recent television advertisement, "Something to be Proud Of," won the Emmy for best commercial at the 29th Annual Boston/New England Emmy Award ceremony held Saturday night, June 3, at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center.
"Something to be Proud Of" features UMass students, a faculty member and accomplished alumni including Bill Pullman, Jack Welch, Jeff Taylor, Stacy Madison, Joseph Abboud and Joseph P. Kennedy II, as well as the University's president, Jack M. Wilson. Mayor Thomas M. Menino, a graduate of UMass-Boston, is featured in a new version of the ad.
Emmy Award statues were presented to Robert P. Connolly, associate vice president of the University of Massachusetts, and to Eran Lobel and Paul Canney of Allston-based Element Productions. Connolly was cited as writer-producer of the advertisement, Canney as director, and Lobel, a graduate of UMass-Amherst, as executive producer.
President Wilson said the University was honored to receive the award.
"When you look at the accomplishments of our students, our faculty and our alumni, it is easy to see that the University of Massachusetts truly is something to be proud of. This advertisement resonates because it states an essential truth. We are proud to receive this Emmy Award, we are proud of the University of Massachusetts, and we are proud that we have contributed such talented students and alumni to the world," President Wilson said.
