Abercrombie leads classes at Taipei choral festival

Wayne Abercrombie, UMass Amherst professor of Music and director of choral activities, lectured and taught master classes in conducting for the 7th Taipei International Choral Festival held July 31 to Aug. 5.

Invited choirs from Norway, Australia, Croatia, Japan and Sweden, along with choirs from Taiwan, presented evening concerts in the National Concert Hall, and seminars during the day.

The 30 participants in the conducting classes were mostly conductors and teachers from Taiwan, but also Malaysia and China. A delegation from the China Chorus Association also attended the festival.

The final concert featured Gabor Hollerung, from Hungary, conducting the Taipei Youth Philharmonic Orchestra and a Festival Chorus of 400 young singers in a performance of the Requiem of Mozart.
