UMass Amherst- Faculty organize international conference on Wrocław

Several faculty participated in an April 11 conference, "Wroc?aw/Breslau: Poles, Germans, Jews and their City," held at the National Yiddish Book Center at Hampshire College. Six speakers from Germany, Poland, Canada and the United States discussed the history and culture of Wroc?aw, known as Breslau before 1945, from the 1800s though the Holocaust, the postwar expulsion of Germans, and the resettlement of displaced Poles and Polish-Jewish survivors of the Holocaust in the era of the Iron Curtain - as well as the legacy of the city's "multi-ethnic" heritage in post-Cold War Europe.
