UMass Amherst- Conference examines Rome and its civil wars

The cultural significance of civil wars in ancient Rome is the focus of an upcoming two-day conference involving historians, literary critics, archeologists and art historians.

Scheduled for Nov. 10-11, "See How I Rip Myself! Rome and Its Civil Wars," will examine the causes of civil war in Rome and how the experience shaped what it meant to be Roman. The conference is being organized by associate professor of Classics Brian Breed and Cynthia Damon and Andreola Rossi of Amherst College's department of classics.
