Funding plan benefits WMass

A funding bill debated last night by the U.S. House of Representatives would provide more than $1.6 million to Western Massachusetts for programs and projects including the University of Massachusetts telescope in Mexico.

The funding is included in the $53.8 billion House Commerce-Justice-Science spending bill for fiscal 2008 which begins on Oct. 1. The House of Representatives took up the bill yesterday. Among the projects funded would be $750,000 for the University of Massachusetts telescope project in Mexico.
