UMass Amherst- Philippides delivers three papers on still-compelling ancient voices

Classic Department chair Marios Philippides attended the Classical Association of New England Summer Institute 2010 at Dartmouth College July 12-17. The theme of the institute was "Not Athens but the World: Why America is Still Listening to Ancient Voices," and, as the Alexander Onassis Lecturer, Philippides delivered three papers entitled: "Historical Events as Depicted In Vase Painting," "The Riddle of the Sphinx: The Rape of Young Men," and "New England Philhellenism and the Formation of Greece as a Modern Nation".  More...
