In 2007, the University President and all five campus Chancellors signed the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment.  In so doing, the University committed to developing a plan for achieving carbon neutrality, taking concrete initial steps to achieve that, and publishing annual progress reports. 

In the years since, the University has succeeded in reducing its carbon emissions on average by 4% per year.  Strategic investments in energy efficiency, recycling, building improvements and others have the campuses on course to meet their goals.  For more information please read the UMass Annual Sustainability Report below.
