The University of Massachusetts is moving forward with plans to build its first-ever student dormitory on the UMass Boston campus. A request for proposals will be issued this spring seeking proposals from private developers who would lease land from the university to build a 1,000 bed residential facility with a dining hall.

Researchers from the University of Massachusetts Political Economy Research Institute (PERI) at UMass Amherst have released a working paper verifying the ability of American fast food restaurants to more than double the minimum wage of their lowest paid workers to $15 an hour over a four-year period without causing the widespread employment losses and decline in profits often cited by critics of such increases.

UMass Medical School has partnered with the state Executive Office of Elder Affairs to launch the Silver Alert Emergency Response Program in 12 Massachusetts communities. The program helps local police collect information from caregivers to locate a missing family member with dementia.
