Within just a week, the University of Massachusetts Amherst went big on Big Data. It outlined plans to create a Center for Data Science, raising $100 million to hire 40 new faculty members in the next 10 years. And it elevated the “school” of computer science to “college” status.


UMass Lowell and officials from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts announced plans for the university’s largest-ever sustainability project, a multimillion-dollar effort that will dramatically reduce annual energy consumption and improve the quality of the living and learning environment on campus.


Dr. Maria Ivanova, an environmental policy expert at UMass Boston, has been named an Andrew Carnegie Fellow by the Carnegie Corporation of New York.


UMass Dartmouth student trustee Jacob Miller has been selected as a 2015 Truman Scholar. The Harry S. Truman Scholarship is one of the nation’s most prestigious scholarships for academic success and public service leadership.
